EFFINGBAR & GRILL STORY

IT ALL STARTED WAY BACK IN 1966 IN A SMALL MIDWESTERN TOWN NAMED NEWTON, ILLINOIS.

Marty’s Dad was awoke by his Mother letting him know that Marty was soon to be in this world. His Dad rushed his Mom to St Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois where Marty was born a few hours later.

Marty was raised by his parents with Midwestern values of honesty and hard work. These values translated into Marty graduating high school from Newton High School and moving to Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from ITT Technical institute with and education in electronics engineering and moved to Albuquerque, NM in the mid 80’s to work for Honeywell Defense Avionics. Marty’s desire to control his own fate in the working world resulted in him quitting the corporate world and venturing into the world of entrepreneurship. Marty’s first business was a partnership into the automotive business detailing cars for some of the more prominent car dealers in Albuquerque. His second business venture was the purchase of a local glass company. He still owns and operates a glass company just not the one he originally purchased. The year 2008 was the beginning of Marty’s venture into the bar and restaurant business. He owned and operated a bar with two partners in the same location as the original Effingbar. Sadly the partnership dissolved and Marty was confronted with the dilemma of closing the bar for good or attempting to own and operate the bar by himself. He struggled with what to name the bar and then one day it struck him. He met his girlfriend several years earlier and in explaining to her where he was from he had mentioned Effingham. Her response was “F”ing What! Growing up there that had never occurred to him. Hence it is only logical that the name Effingbar was the name of his new bar. Now you know the rest of the story.
